TERM AND CONDITIONS We must be informed of any cancellations at least two weeks prior to the commencement of the course. If we are not informed in this time, a £50.00 administration charge will be levied up to 48 hours before the commencement of the course. After this time no refunds will be given. Whilst every effort is made to avoid cancellation or postponent of courses. Shepherds Bookbinders Ltd reserve the right to cancel or postpone a course, and will endeavor to give 5 working days' notice before the start date. This course is the second unit necessary for the Level 1 C&G Award in Bookbinding, where you will learn how to make two different types of
photograph album, one with folded guards, and one with stiff boards, and a lined cloth slipcase.

17th Century-style Laced on Vellum Binding (3 days) An optional assignment in the C&G Level 3 curriculum, this offers an alternative style binding, where you will make a limp vellum binding cover, attached to a text-block with leather thongs.

Library Style Binding (2 days) A mandatory assignment in the C&G Level 3 curriculum. When books are likely to be used a great deal, or have a very heavy textlock library style binding will ensure greater durability and strength than a standard hardback case binding. During this course you will make a multi-section binding with split boards, hollow spine, cloth-jointed endpapers and reinforced corners all characteristics of a library style binding.

Edge Decoration Edges are another suraface for the binder's creativity to shine but they are often overlooked. They act as an important protection barrier as well as being a key design element of a fine binding. In this workshop, Kate will show you how to achieve the perfect glass smooth finish to your edges and work through a variety of decorative finishes. Half Leather Case Binding (Online via ZOOM- 5 days) This course is the first unit in the Level 2 C&G Level 2 Certificate in Bookbinding. Using vegetable tanned leather from Harmatan or Hewits you will learn how to make a casebound leather books in quarter and half leather, and how to pare and sharpen knives. Some bookbinding experience is necessary.
