The Holy Bible, Printed by Robert Barker, London, 1613.

First black-letter quarto edition of the King James’s Bible.

The title-page features the famous heart-shaped centre and is preceded by a double-page map by John Speede which was added in 1615 along with Lord Robert Herry’s Concordance. This edition follows the format of the Geneva Bible and is a fine example of Jacobean printing.

Conservation  work includes the title-page of Genealogies and verso,‘To the Christian Reader’, plus ff. 5 & 6 reproduced by hand-printed facsimile on period hand-made paper. The text has been de-acidified and losses made good using archive quality materials.

The binding is a recreation of an English Restoration Binding in the style of the Renowned Queens’ Binder ‘B’, c. 1670. using ‘draw-handle’ and many other types of floran tools plus tulip roll borders with areas picked-out in black stain and powdered silver.

Bound by Daniel Wray in 2005
