Twenty five years ago we opened a hand bookbinding company in Rochester Row, Victoria, London. The original shop
was the core of all the facets that make the company what it is today.

In 1988 Rochester Row was a hand bindery and paper conservation workshop with a counter at the front selling bookbinding materials and fine papers. Over the years the company has expanded each aspect of the business, firstly
by buying the prestigious Sangorski & Sutcliffe and Zaehnsdorf binderies in 1998, and a few years later acquiring
the well-known paper retailer Falkiners Fine Papers.

We have three premises in Central London and one in the Wiltshire countryside:

In London, we have the bindery in Rochester Row, a wonderful new paper store just behind Victoria Station and a small boutique style shop in Mayfair that showcases the company’s products and services.

Near Pewsey in Wiltshire we have a thatched barn where we make many of the products we sell in our London stores.
The barn is also home to the WILTSHIRE BARN PROJECT which helps Wounded and Sick Veterans learn a new
trade in craft bookbinding.

An important aspect of our work is the binding and restoration of fine and rare books. We are one of the last hand
binderies specialising in fine craft binding. MORE INFORMATION ON THE BINDERY HERE.

From our store in Mayfair we buy and sell fine bindings, particularly the modern design bindings made in our workshops. SEE HERE FOR OUR LATEST CATALOGUE OF FINE BINDINGS.

Our aim is to cover all aspects of the book arts. Through our shops and website we offer a broad choice of materials and services. We also have an active education programme, running courses in bookbinding and associated crafts such as hand printing and paper crafts. SEE HERE FOR OUR EVENTS AND COURSES.

In 2013 we became an Approved City and Guilds Centre; ‘Shepherds Centre for Book Arts’,  We are now offering qualifications in City and Guilds Level 2 Bookbinding as part of our standard bookbinding courses.
