These intensive courses will demonstrate fine binding forwarding techniques. The courses are taught by Courtney Gregwah and Mick Hagan, both highly experienced craftsmen based at our London bindery - see The Teachers

On the first day you will be shown how to prepare ‘made’ endpapers and the book’s boards, be taught rounding and backing, making a hollow for the spine, and lacing on boards. On the second day you will learn how to prepare your leather for covering, including tool preparation and paring techniques.
Please note that your are encouraged to bring your own books to work on these courses but we recommend leaving the books with us for at least a few days so that they can dry out and press properly. Books can be left in the press and sent to you by post at a later date for a small postal charge.

The course will show you how to cover your book with prepared leather on the first day, during which you will learn how to pleat corners, form headcaps and set joints. On the second day you will see how to trim the leather out, fill the boards and put the endpapers down.
