HALFPENNY, William

Arithmetick and Measurement

Printed for Richard Ware, London 1748

Octavo

William Halfpenny was an 18th century architect who published a number of volumes on various aspects of domestic architecture and design.

He was also a carpenter, with a strong interest in the practical considerations of building and landscape gardening.  This rare and curious little book on arithmetic is both charming and informative and a fascinating insight into the evolution of mathematics in the eighteenth century.

Newly bound in an eighteenth century period style of full calf, with a lightly speckled Cambridge panel and tooled in gold leaf, the book has handmade paper endpapers and the original edges have been left untouched.  Housed in a leather entry slipcase.
